ATOY is open to the general public. Entries under 18 must be accompanied with a letter from a parent/guardian.

How to Enter:

1. Photograph a tree in your region.

2. Tell us why its special to you or your community (in 200 words or less).

3. Enter for a chance to win special prizes!

 

Choice of Tree

 

The featured tree must be located within the same country as the participant. In the event the same tree is nominated, the organisers will select the entry which was submitted first. Trees located in religious institutions of religious significance in Sri Lanka should not be entered in this competition and will not be considered.

 

Submissions & Deadlines
 
  • The contest is open from 14th February 2019 and the closing date for all entries will be 14th March 2019. Please note that late submissions made after this date will not be eligible to win prizes.

 

  • The Organizers reserve the right to reject an entry as they seem fit, and entrants agree to be bound by this condition.

 

  • The winning entry of each country will be decided by the relevant organiser/public voting/ judging panel . All decisions made will be considered final.

 

  • Submissions must be made in English.

 

  • No changes/amendments to an entry is permitted once submission has taken place.

 

  • Participants irrevocably agree to let the organisers use their submissions for marketing, promotional and other materials, with credit provided to the photographer.

 

  • All decisions will be deemed as final and participants agree to this by submitting their entry.

 

  • The organizers reserve the right to add/modify these rules at their discretion.

 

The contest will take the top 3 entries from participating countries and a judging panel will decide the winner of

Asian Tree of the Year.

Q. Who can enter?

The contest is open to everyone, whether professional or amateur photographers. Individuals who are over 18 can apply. Entries under 18 must be accompanied with a letter from a parent/guardian.

 

Q: What Do you Need to Make A Valid Entry?

 1. Color Photograph

  • An colour photograph of the tree, taken in daylight

 

-The photo is meant to be a creative photograph with factors such as composition and lighting playing key roles.

 

Note: It is advisable not to feature any people in the picture, and if any person were to appear in a submitted photograph the organizers shall assume that the entering participant has duly obtained the complete permission of such featured person(s) for the inclusion of their image and for the use of such image by the organizers of the competition as they see fit.

 

Photo size details

• JPG or JPEG file format

• At least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image)

• Total file size must be 2MB or less

 

2. Declaration

  • Declaration by participant stating that the photo(s) taken are their own and do not infringe on any intellectual property rights, copyrights or trademarks, and that the story is accurate to the best of their knowledge.

 

3. The story of the tree: Participants are required to tell the story of the tree. This could include myths, beliefs, historical data or local testimony about the particular tree in question. Participants are required to elaborate why this tree has special significance to themselves or the local community in general. The story should be limited to 200 words.

Q. Can I enter a tree stump/vine as part of my entry?

A:Unfortunately not, we will need a photograph of a tree.

 

Q. Is there an entry fee?

A. There is no entry fee.

 

Q. Will submissions be returned?

A. No, submitted photographs or any data files will not be returned.

 

Q. Will I be notified when my submission is received?

A. Entrants are not notified when their submissions are received, only shortlisted entries will be notified.
